Misty's Bio

Beach Volleyball champion Misty May-Treanor and partner Kerri Walsh captured their second Olympic Gold Medal at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and became the first team ever to repeat as back-to-back champs. The victory also marked their 108th straight match win. Upon her return from the Beijing Games, Misty gladly accepted a role on ABC’s hit-show Dancing with the Stars. She even pulled double duty as she and Kerri captured the Manhattan Beach Open for the fourth straight year and were crowned AVP Crocs Cup Champions for the third straight year, all while Misty continued with her duties on Dancing with the Stars. Misty was one of the rising talents of Dancing with the Stars until an Achilles injury derailed her shot at the trophy. After undergoing successful surgery, Misty is now back on the sand. She is competing in the 2010 AVP and FIVB seasons with partner Nicole Branagh, the 2009 AVP MVP.

Misty and Kerri were distinguished as AVP Team of the Year for four consecutive years (2003 through 2006). Misty was also named Most Valuable Player in 2005-07, Best Offensive Player in 2004-07, and Best Defensive Player in 2006 and 2007. She was the first and only woman besides Walsh to reach 100 tournament victories and currently has the most wins of any female to ever play the sport.

Nicknamed “Turtle,” she paired up with Holly McPeak early in her career, collecting her first five career wins in addition to placing fifth in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. May-Treanor attended Long Beach State where she was a part of the 1998 NCAA Championship that defeated Penn State and was awarded the NCAA Championship Co-MVP. In addition to the victory, May-Treanor received several other collegiate accolades including the 1998 Honda Broderick NCAA Athlete-of-the-Year Award and was an NCAA First-Team All-American from 1996 to 1998. Her 1998 team was one of just three college teams to go undefeated in a season. She graduated with a BA in Kinesiology.

May-Treanor was born in Los Angeles but spent her high school years in Costa Mesa where she attended Newport Harbor High School. She grew up alongside her two brothers Brack and Scott. Her cousin is tennis Olympian Taylor Dent. May-Treanor currently splits time between Long Beach, Calif. and Coral Springs, Fla. with her husband, MLB catcher, Matt Treanor. She enjoys playing with her boxers Gruden and Boogie and speding time with family & friends.
