Q and A with Misty

Q: Did you know your injury was serious right away? What were the first thoughts that went through your head? Thanks Misty!!! cant wait to see you back on the show next year!

Misty: Being an athlete and a kinesiology major, I knew it wasn’t something minor. I knew right away how serious it was, and it was a helpless feeling. Initially I was bummed about not being able to perform on the show, because Macs and I were practicing really hard and anticipating a breakout show with The Jive. Hopefully they will invite me back to the show in the next few years.

Q: Was being on Dancing with the Stars as fun as it looks?

Misty: Yes, but it was a lot of work too. You spend so much time with all of the people on the show, and they were all great. I’m going to stay in touch with as many people as I can from the show. The great thing was meeting people from different walks of like and making some great new friends.

Q: What are your chances of being fully back in action on the volleyball court in 2010? What about the 2012 Olympics?

Misty: I know I won’t do both tours. I really admire what Jenny Johnson Jordan and Annett Davis have done since they have been balancing motherhood with being pro athletes. I could see myself playing in that capacity to start with. I can’t rule out the Olympics in 2012 but it’s not something I’m focusing on right now. Playing both tours is such a grind with all that travel, but if we could qualify by playing four international events one year and four the next, it could happen.

Yes, I’m interested in updates!

Dear Ms. May,

I am a huge fan! I was wondering, if it’s not too much trouble, if I could get your autograph. If you can, please send it to 172 Jackson Lane, Bloomingdale, IL, 60108. Thanks!

Misty May rocks the volleyball court…...
She is right up there with cheesecake and “the cure”
I like pee- wee herman too…I will have to ask her about that at the next AVP game! Cool down to earth friendly…hanging out with her dad, walking down the boardwalk at Seaside Heights, NJ -eating pizza….My friend and I see Kerri come out of the “port-a Potty”...we thought the golden girls deserved golden potties, but they really blew our minds when they jumped in the ocean to cool off…..They are the real-deal….the AVP is the greatest volleyball fun you can ever have….I highly recommend it !!!!!!!

I know you hear it all the time, but I just wanted to let you know that I think you and Kerri are amazing players. I love watching you play and I really look up to you and how far you’ve come in your career. I hope to someday make it as far as you two have. You are an amazing athlete and I’m sure you’ll be an amazing mom some day. -Erin Dean.

Hi Misty: It was wonderful watching you in the Olympics, you guys were my favorite so of course you were my fav on Dancing. I just severed my achilles 11/15 at the age of 55, had surgery and all that. I’ve always been athletic and have been extremely athletic even though this is a young persons injury I have been told. Where are you in your recovery? What types of therapy have you found works best to help you heal? Any holistic things you may be using? I’m open for any information because I want to do everything I can to get back to a normal life as soon as possible. I was a person that went 100 mph and now I feel I’m creaping along at 5 mph. You are the best and good luck in your recovery.

I wasnt really interested in watching volleyball all that much, especiallyy on tv. But when I saw you and Kerri Walsh playing in the olymipics, I was hooked! Each play always has an exciting feel for it because I would never know what might happen. Im still not into watching volleyball but your games are an exception, I would watch it all day! Thanks for making volleyball games exciting for me!

misty,do you think that the right couple won dancing with the stars and if you’ll be back on the show,Simone

Daniel Yount | on 9/12/08

I am sure when you decide you are well enough to get back into the game you will.
Also, what ever you decide to do, will be a positive event for everyone surrounding Volleyball.

Also, just read that Kerri is pregnant. Great to hear she is now on her way to what she wanted to be next…... A mother.

Hey Misty,
I’m a long time fan and I hope your leg is OK. I was so bummed to find out that you got injured. I was watching DWTS when they announced that you got hurt.

But I also heard your planning to start a family. That’s wonderful! Hope you get better soon and start playing on the beach again. I really miss seeing you play. Good luck with your family and good luck with getting better. Love always.

Melissa | on 7/12/08

Hey! I hope you are recovering well, i know it can be rough going through injuries. I tore my acl and mcl, and a tear in my meniscus, february last year, and i am still not allowed to play. I LOVE watching you play beach because of your fire, and determination. Watching you has made me stay involved with sports, i have watched my club and school vball and bball teams for the past year and i want to get out to play but I was just wondering how you have come back from your injuries, the same or even more agressive than before? because to get back to play vball or even bball i need to be aggressive and not be scared to play the game. Could you let me know please if you have the time.

I am a fellow ATR – June 26th – while dancing! I’m an avid runner/athlete and had been training for a Boston Qualifying marathon! Then one night out dancing with the ladies….pop.

I’m six months out and walking in shoes (no heels yet for business meetings), but will start running again – slowly – this week and have my sites set on a 5K in the spring.

Slow and steady! Good Luck. Here’s to dancing again!

Michelle | on 6/12/08

I’m a huge fan of you and Kerri, and i was reading some of your Beijing interviews. I know that both you and Kerri have baby plans and that you are thinking of retiring from beach volleyball. Is that true? I would really hate for you two to stop.

Erin | on 5/12/08

Hey Misty I hope you are going well and recovering fast to get back to the dance floor and to the court. I have a question? How were you able to go back to volleyball after you tore PCL? I have torn my labrum in my shoulder three times and I have had three surgeries to replace it. I am scared to go back to play volleyball because I am scared to tear it again. Watching you play this year in the Olympics and at the Mason AVP, really inspired me to get back to play. But for some reason I am scared. Can you give me advice?

Jessica . M | on 5/12/08

Hey Misty was sooo happy to see you walking about without krutches at the DWTS finally. You look Great!! So just heard Kerri is expecting, I was wondering and if it’s not too personal. Is Matt’s sports hernia’s gonna delay y’all’s plans of parenthood? I know it’s not a competition between Kerri and yourself. I’ve just heard you mention it Alot since you ladies won your second gold. Plus I can’t think of anyone more deserving than you. You look like you would be an “AWESOME” mommy!! You just look so driven and dedicated when you want something that I know you would give that same intensity to a baby. Well I’ll keep you in my prayers and have my fingers crossed that the baby stork visits Matt and you soon. Best wishes your #1 fan in south Texas!!!

Ted Tomasek | on 5/12/08

Hey were you taking or did you take Cipro as an antibiotic – It makes your tendons explode?

Desiree | on 4/12/08

Misty, I know this question is of a more personal nature, but I was wondering….now that Kerri has annouced that she is expecting her first child. Will you and Matt consider it a prime time to start a family as well?

Desiree

Britt Reed | on 4/12/08

Hey Misty! It’s good to hear from you. I just read that Kerri is pregnant and that her child was conceived in Bejing; she wasn’t wasting time! Haha. I hope you are doing well. I miss seeing you and Kerri on the court together, but I know you need a break and you need to recover, so take your time. Your fans will always be here for you. Much love.
