Hi all. I know most of you may have thought I fell off the face of the Earth…...but I haven’t. Where do I start??? Well, since Christmas not too many interesting things have been happening. I have had a couple of appearances and mostly I’ve been focusing on rehabbing and working out.
First, I must say it is nice to see my husband and we can hardly believe that we will see so much of each other this year. I am currently in Detroit and will most likely live out here for the year. I am really enjoying myself and I love the city we live in (Royal Oak) just outside of Detroit. It is convenient to the field and our building is dog friendly. Our whole family will be together. Plus, the zoo is just down the street so I can go and visit all the animals I love as much as I want. I went to opening day on April 10th and oh my goodness it was a spectacle. It was amazing, the Tigers stadium was sold out (over 40,000 fans) and they had a fly over with the jets. The fans definitely love their baseball and it is great to see the support. Go Tigers!!!
During Spring Training I was in Lakeland, FL with Matt. It is about 3.5 hours from our home in Coral Springs, FL so I was able to drive back every now and then for therapy on my achilles.
In April, I did an event in Orlando at Disney World. It was the ESPN weekend at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I got to bring 5 people and we got VIP service. Not only did we get to mingle with other athletes, but we got to have fast passes to every ride we wanted to go on. I had such a wonderful experience I hope that they ask me back again. I have also been working with different groups on certain ads. I recorded PSAs with various Attorney Generals for The Century Council in an effort to eliminate drunk driving and promote responsible decision making regarding alcohol.

As for rehab, I am healing well. I was cleared to jog so that is an exciting step! There is only so much walking and biking I can do. I still walk but now I use it for more of a warm-up and cool down. I also was able to jump rope at therapy along with running through the agility ladder doing different exercises. My spirits are still up, just keep plugging away at therapy and in the gym! Thanks for everyone’s continued support.

I’m glad to hear you’re doing well and your recovery is going well too.

Misty,
Glad to hear you are recovering. I too ruptured my achilles on September 30. I was just as happy to start running at 6 months and actually got in one day of spring skiing. I find I am running with a little limp, possibly just out of fear or habit. I feel your excitement with returning to “normal” it has been a long 6 months.

I suffered a partial tear in my left Achilles tendon last Oct. It was a side effect from the antibiotic Cipro. That’s 6 months ago. Things were going along well and they had started ultra sound therapy to help bring more blood flow into the area. The entire tendon was inflammed, per the MRI. I had a set back 3 weeks ago. The ultra sound set up a pain reaction, which set up a weakness reaction and I have lost 2-3 months.
Because you are an athlete, do you have any helpful suggestions for a more speedy recovery? I had to go back into my splint 3 weeks ago and just today I had to put the removeable cast back on. I am very discouraged. Any suggestions would be helpful. I was doing other therapy, but after the setback 3 qeeks ago and the increased pain, even down into my ankles and feet. The right tendon has tendonitis but no tears. Thanks for your suggestions.
I’m still under a doctors care and he says the problem is from the inflammation caused by the Cipro.
I’d love to hear how you are doing and if you still hope to be back on Dancing With the Stars again. I sure did enjoy watching you dance and I know you thoroughly enjoyed it.

I will always believe that you are the greatest female athlete in the history of sports; thank you for being such a force for good, and a beautiful icon for women of all ages to identify with. Misty, the world is so much brighter because you are in it.

Hi Misty, It was so nice to read your blog and find out how you are doing and all that’s going on in your life now. I’m so glad that your achilles injury has healed and that you are now able to run and jump rope. Being a runner, volleyball & tennis player, who has had more than my fair share of injuries over the years, I can certainly relate to all you’ve been through with this injury and I share your excitement of getting back to your active lifestyle. I “love” to watch you play volleyball (and dance). You are awesome!!! I also love your humor and free spirit, you were always such fun to watch when you came out onto the court. Hope you continue to heal well and hopefully we will all see you back on the sand (or indoor) playing volleyball sometime in the future. Sincerely, Annie :)

Hi Misty. I met you on Opening Day with my friend Ruben. I want to wish you the best of luck as you recover from your injury. I experienced the same thing (ruptured achilles) and understand how difficult it is for an athlete to struggle to get back on your feet, literally. I plan on using your instructional videos, as I work with my middle school volleyball team. They wont believe I met you! I wish you the best. Go Tigers!

Hi Misty!!
How are you? Sounds like you have been really busy with your rehab and travel the last few months . I’m so glad to hear that everything is going well for you. Step by step you are getting there. I admire your drive and determination. You’re an inspiration to all. You will be greatly missed by your fans this summer. Beach volleyball just won’t be the same without you. I wish you the best and hope everything continues to go well for you in rehab. Look forward to seeing you back on the beach playing again. And hopefully back in the ballroom dancing again someday too. Hope you and Matt enjoy your summer. God Bless you and Matt in everything you both do in life and your careers. Take care. Best Wishes. Hi Misty, I am glad your therapy is going so well and that you are well on the way to recovery. It must be nice for you to be able to jog again finally as I am aware how addicting running can be. Before you know it you will be running sprints again. It is funny you should mention living by the zoo because I saw a very disturbing story on 60 Min.s a few weeks ago about how they are rapidly poisoning lions in Kenya and how the numbers of these beautiful animals are dropping. It made me feel very sad and angry. If something isnt done the only lions our children will be seeing will be in a zoo. I am happy to see your foundation is moving along cant wait to hear more on it. U and Matt are good people and rock. Anyway I hope u both enjoy your time together and much love to ya both, cant wait ot see ya back playing again ! :0)

it is so nice to hear you are enjoying the great state of Michigan. Hopefully you will enjoy having four seasons as well. It will definitely be hard to get used to, but it is nice to have the changes. Hope your recovery keeps going strong, and enjoy your next year with your Husband

Keep up the hard work Misty! Now that you are jogging, it won’t be much longer before you can play a little v-ball.

Hey Misty:
Juan here. We met briefly on the TODAY show in NYC before Olympics. I got an autographed ball and learned the pokie. You got to take a pic with me (yellow shirt).
Anywho, I am so relieved to hear therapy is going fine for you. I was really bummed about your injury. Keep up the good rehab and look forward to seeing you back in action. Tell your agent to avoid the reality shows that compromise your ability to remain in top playing form. We need you out there. Dig baby Dig!
How’s Kelly?

Misty,
If I had one wish, it would be to play volleyball for the rest of my life. After college, there is only so much you can do. You are amazing and I just wanted to let you know how much of an inspiration you are to me.
=)

Hey Misty! I’m very very glad to hear you’re doing well. I kinda thought you did fall off the earth, just kidding. I hope your holding up well in Detroit. My home town is Lansing, the capital of Michigan. Hopefully its warming up for you. I recently moved to Hermosa Beach in July and saw your 101st win in Long Beach that month.
Just wanted to say, Hey! and hope you have a speedy recovery.
As a fellow vb player, I want to thank you for inspiring me to follow my dreams in the sport, and move out to CA to accomplish them.
