Hey there everyone! It is raining here in Detroit and I wish that I could blow it towards California. California could sure use the rain right now. Living in a different state, I didn’t know about the fires in Santa Barbara until I was on the computer. It just isn’t something that the local news focused on. I have relatives in Santa Barbara that had to evacuate, I am keeping my fingers crossed for all of those in and around the area. Both Matt and I are keeping everyone in our prayers.
I like being in Detroit and wondered, what are some fun things to see and do around the city? Well, Matt has had his hip surgery so that limits what we are able to do, we haven’t made it to the Mowtown Museum yet(I love Mowntown music) but we did manage to visit one of my favorite places….the zoo. We live just down the way from the Detroit Zoo. We rented Matt one of those electrical scooters and because the park is very wheelchair accessible we were able to see everything. It was really a great zoo and a wonderful place to visit. I would definitely get a season pass to not only have access to the wildlife but to just go and relax in its many picnic areas. Some of my favorite exhibits were the bears(polar, grizzly), the bear cats (yes, bear cats), hippos, monkeys, and seals. All the animals were quite fascinating. It really hits home when you look at the placards for each animal and see how many are left in the world. Many are endangered and it makes you wonder how long until the only ones of their kind will exist in zoos. Anyways it was a great time and I highly recommend the Detroit Zoo if you are ever in Detroit, Michigan.
Today, May 9th, I participated along with a couple other Tiger wives in the Walk for MS at Comerica Park. I arrived early and did the 3 mile walk through downtown Detroit. It was really neat to see the community supporting this cause. It was very humbling to be a part of this, and I was so thankful I got the invitation to walk as part of the Tiger Wives Team. During the opening ceremonies we heard from a woman that has been battling this disease for over 20 years. She has been able to overcome numerous hurdles in her life and she has never given up but continues to fight…you must live each day to the fullest. Needless to say it was a great day to not only start my day but also my weekend.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!!!!

Always enjoy reading your comments. Know you are busy, but keep them coming.
Glad to hear you are able to do more and more since your injury. Hope Matt is also doing well.

Hope you are well on your way to recovery and hope that Matt recovers quickly and fully also! Happy to hear that you like the Detroit area, and glad you participated in the MS Walk too! When Matt gets more mobile, I could suggest a few nice scenic areas to visit and/or hike (MI has many), but in the meantime, I think Belle Isle is close to you — if you haven’t checked into or gone there yet, that might be something to look into.
Hope that you had a great Mother’s Day, and that you have a great Memorial Day weekend as well! Take Care!

Hi Again:
I forgot some stuff.
I was reading about Karch Kiraly on
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karch_Kiraly
and it said he grew up in Jackson, MI.
That is about 78 miles from the zoo.
My Dad was from Grass Lake, a town next to Jackson.
I used to go to Jackson with my Grandparents and eat at the Chicken Inn.
We got Ice Cream at the Jackson Dairy.
The dairy is realy good.
It is now called:
The Parlour
1401 Daniel Road
Jackson, MI 49202
Phone: (517) 783-1581
http://www.visualalchemy.net/deforest/parlourjackson/jackson_index.html
Be carfull when you order, a single icecream was two large scoops of ice cream.
I don’t know where Karch lived but he is 6 months older then
me. Maybe we crossed paths when we were kids.
I used to swim and fish at Grass Lake near Jackson in 1969-1974
when I was little and was visiting my Grandparents.

Hey Misty first let me say this being so close to Mothers Day I know you are probably feeling a little something inside your soul hopefully fond memories of your mother. She must have been a exceptional woman to raise such a fine young lady for a daughter. You are such a breathe of fresh air. You are always full of such positive thoughtfull things. I love how you notice the important things in life. So many people get caught up in success and awards that they sometimes forget what really matters . I hope Matt recovers soon and I will pray for your family and all the others who have lives affected by the fires. Take care girl.
