Blog: Misty attends USOC Media Summit

Hi everyone!!! Well, during the week in between Miami and Dallas I was lucky enough to participate in the USOC (US Olympic Committee) media summit. Olympic hopefuls as well as those who have already qualified met in Chicago for the three day event. It was great. We do a lot of interviews not only for different television stations but newspapers and magazines are there as well. This helps to get some of the necessary footage that they need out of the way so that we may focus on training. One of the highlights of the media summit was getting interviewed by Biff Henderson. Biff is David Letterman’s correspondent. He was a blast, we cracked jokes and he kept the interview light.

After talking with Biff my stomach hurt from laughing so much. He was nice enough to take a picture with me and that was so exciting since I only see him on television. Another exciting part of the summit was doing the shoots for NBC. They always come up with the best commercials and ads for the Olympics. Everytime I see one of the countdown commercials I get goosebumps. Also, while I was in Chicago I got an invitation to sing the 7th inning stretch at the Cubs game. Of course the answer was “Yes!” I would pass up on that opportunity. I couldn’t believe that I was actually going to sing. In 2004 I threw the first pitch out in front of 40,000 people and now I was going to sing for them. I was scared that I would forget the words or get booed. I couldn’t hear myself during the song but I thought I did all right. After watching it on TIVO, I didn’t think I was that bad but I was yelling into the microphone and sounded a little like Alfalfa from the Little Rascals. Since singing is not my forte, I will say I did ok. I got cheers from the crowd but I still don’t know if that is because they liked my style or that I was finally done and they could get back to the game. After singing, I got interviewed by Len Kasper and Bob Brenly the Cubs announcers. They had easy questions and made me feel so comfortable. I enjoyed the view from the press box and didn’t want to leave. Overall, I had a wonderful time not only at the media summit but in the city of Chicago. I can’t wait to get back to the windy city in July. Thanks and keep cheering!!!

Yes, I’m interested in updates!
