Misty and Kerri’s incredible streak of 112 consecutive match victories came to an end this weekend in Mason, Ohio at the hands of Elaine Youngs and Nicole Branagh. Youngs and Branagh defeated Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh 21-19, 10-21, 25-23 in an exhausting, back-and-forth, one-hour, 45-minute match in front of a raucous sold-out crowd of 5,000 and a national-television audience. This was the first loss for the Olympic champions since they lost to the same duo over a year ago on August 19th, 2007. While visibly disappointed after the loss, Misty and Kerri both admitted that the demands of their schedules had taken some of their focus off volleyball since they won gold in Beijing.
“I can’t tell you what day it is right now,” May-Treanor said. “I’m tired. It would be nice if this were the last tournament. Kerri and I have a lot going on. It’s tough to focus just on volleyball right now. But that’s what we do.”
Still, Misty congratulated their AVP rivals on a hard fought win.
“It happens,” May-Treanor said. “You win some, you lose some. They played great. We had our opportunities; we just couldn’t shut the door. With that team, you really have to concentrate and finish them off when you can.”
Misty and Kerri will look to get back on top next weekend in the AVP Crocs Cup Shootout in Santa Barbara.

Please don’t quit! I’m disabled and can’t move around very much and am rarely able to leave my house. You and Kerri are so inspirational to me. I watch every match you play that is aired on TV (including every match in Beijing). Congrats on all of your accomplishments both on and off the sand! You and Kerri deserve all the praises awarded to you and more. Thank you for helping me without even knowing I exist. God Bless and Good Luck!!!

Exactly, “you win some, you lose some”. However still the #1 team in my books, not only for their wins, but for who they are as individuals. I cant say it enough….very humble and kindhearted players who love their job and and are loyal to their fans. As their fans are to them.
Best of luck in Santa Barbara ladies…..Ya going to dominate….I know it.
Cant wait!!!! :)

I was devastated to see you lose, but am so proud of both of you. You are phenomenal players and represented the US with such pride and athletecism. You also both give young female athletes someone to look up to. I was glued to the TV throughout the Olympics as were my young daughters and can’t wait to see what you are going to do next. Good luck!

My goodness 112 consecutive matches and back to back gold medals. I’m not sure ending a streak is what needs to be looked at here. How about who else will ever do this. Yep thats right “no one”.... Its time you guys enjoy this and then reprioritize what you both want to accomplish in the future both personally and professionally. All I ask is that you stay together as a team. Good luck in Santa Barbara..

Tacked on a few more wins before your high score was set in stone. But as you said “I’m tired” I could imagine. Managing superstar lifestyle and volleyball would be another trick all to itself, but sure you will figure it out. I would change “You win some, you lose some.” to “You win most , you loose few” . Never the less beating you they would have to be good. I can only catch what happened on the game by checking web results. Would be nifty to have a stream of the matches, saw a old link , but was not to the current tournament. Do they do that any more? I can catch highlights its seems, but not the full match. Sucks to miss both mens and womens matches.

It was so upsetting to see the loss, but you are as gracious losing as you are when winning. You could tell the fatigue had set in with both yourself and Kerri. Any fan who saw that match could tell that you both weren’t yourselves. It was tough to watch, but there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that you will beat them next time, and that you are the most loved and best beach volleyball duo in the world. The loss has already been forgotten.

Just wanted to say that I’m so proud of you and Kerri for going out there and giving it your all despite very full, busy schedules! You both played wonderfully, but I guess it was Nicole and EY’s turn to win that day.
You & Kerri are still the golden girls no matter what!!!
