If you’ve heard local lore about Misty May-Treanor, either from her days as a Long Beach State volleyball player or recent tales from her extended stint as part of the most dominating beach volleyball tandem in history, you’ve probably heard that she’s genuine, that rarest of qualities in a top-level athlete/celebrity. The kind of player who’s the best in history at her sport, and whose famous celebration dance airs every commercial break during the NBA Finals as part of a Gatorade spot. But genuine she is, and that’s why she didn’t just show up to the Special Olympics Summer Games this year for photo ops—she showed up, as she has before, to do work.

Hey there everyone! It is raining here in Detroit and I wish that I could blow it towards California. California could sure use the rain right now. Living in a different state, I didn’t know about the fires in Santa Barbara until I was on the computer. It just isn’t something that the local news focused on. I have relatives in Santa Barbara that had to evacuate, I am keeping my fingers crossed for all of those in and around the area. Both Matt and I are keeping everyone in our prayers.

Hi everyone! Recently I was in Washington D.C. on behalf of The Century Council to meet with various congressmen (Kind—Wisconsin, Martinez—Florida) but to also speak at the new Visitor’s Center in the Capitol on behalf of The Century Council. It was ‘Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day’ and I was so happy to be a part of the event and meet a bunch of cool kids. The event promoted physical activity and the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. I spoke on the issue of underage drinking. Antwan Jamison, from the Washington Wizards, was the other speaker and athlete involved in the activities. I think it was a successful day and I am…
