BEIJING–The most dominant duo in beach volleyball history stepped off the Olympic medal podium and into new lives, leaving behind a legacy unmatched in the sport.
Americans Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh laid waste to another field at the Beijing Games, and their hiatus from the sport will be welcomed by rivals who’ve been unable to topple them for years.
The duo, a pair of California-raised athletes, won their second straight Olympic gold medal by beating China’s Wang Jie and Tian Jia 21-18, 21-18 at the rain-drenched Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Ground.
